Dr Alison Metcalfe

Alison is the Medical Director and Caldicott Guardian in the NHS Business Services Authority, an arm’s length body of the Department of Health and Social Care, which delivers national scale business services to support the NHS.

Alison initially trained as a general practitioner before specialising in legal medicine, ethics, risk management and patient safety at the Medical Protection Society where she worked for 20 years. Through her career, her passion has been for supporting healthcare professionals and organisations to deliver safer patient care and better health outcomes.

In her role in NHSBSA she has a particular interest in digital safety and the appropriate use and integration of information in national services to improve services for patients.
