National Data Guardian’s annual progress report for 2024–2025 published

The National Data Guardian for Health and Social Care, Dr Nicola Byrne, has published her annual progress report covering the financial year 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025. The report highlights the key activities and achievements of Dr Byrne’s office during the year and, where relevant, includes commentary on significant developments that took place beyond the reporting period.

As the independent advisor to the government and the health and care system, Dr Byrne supports the responsible, ethical and transparent use of health and social care data. The report sets out how the Office of the National Data Guardian has continued to guide the sector through complex issues relating to data governance, privacy and security, while promoting public trust in how data is used to support care, improve services and enable research.

The report also sets out Dr Byrne’s priority work areas for the remainder of her term, through to March 2027.
